THE SHAVING BRUSH AND THE CEILING FAN

It was really unbelievable. What has happened? How it could be? Is it some joke from someone? How it is possible. Should I tell someone? Would it not be foolish to do so? A lot of questions started hitting my mind. One thing was sure it was not a dream as suddenly the light went off, it was load shedding definitely.

Shows to Watch when you are Depressed

Everyone has one of those days when nothing seems right. You’ll have to admit that getting out of bed on one such day is an ordeal and you’d rather have the earth open up and swallow you whole. Instead of moping around and letting your mood go from bad to worse, here are some shows that should kick your depression out of the window.

(Note: Couple of these shows aren’t latest ones so you can always watch them online or download them from the right places).

Prison Break:

For four years, 2005 to 2009, this serial drama had millions of viewers on the edge of the seats. The story of one brother trying to help the other escape from a maximum-security prison will keep you hooked for a long time.

Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) is imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. His brother, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) is a structural engineer who comes up with the perfect plan to break his brother out of prison, before he receives the death sentence. The first season follows Michael as he enters Fox River State Penitentiary and sets his plan in motion.

However, the plot thickens as more twists and turns begin to crop up. There is something completely exciting about watching a serial that has innocent people on the run. Prison Break will not disappoint.

Dexter:

This one is still growing strong and has built up a fan following unlike any other. After all, how many shows out there have a good serial killer as the main protagonist? Michael C. Hall, who plays Dexter Morgan, works as a forensic science expert for the Miami Metro Police Department. However, by night, he becomes an emotionless killer, getting rid of criminals that slipped through the system.

The 2006 drama series is all set for its latest season and Dexter’s secret life is not so secret anymore. As it becomes tougher to continue with his old ways, new dangers crop up and threaten to drag all his skeletons out of the cupboard. If you’re feeling blue, this show will help you forget about everything as you keep up with Dexter and his actions.

Twin Peaks:

If you loved the 90s and wish you could turn back time; then Twin Peaks will help you do so. Weird would be an understatement for a show that ran for just about a season and a half. This means you can watch all the episodes in half a day.

What starts as a murder mystery of Laura Palmer after she was found wrapped in plastic on the riverbank, slowly escalates into something much more otherworldly. A one-armed man Mike, a dwarf in a red suit, demonic spirits, giants and vivid dreams are all part of this 90s series that will whisk you away to a fictional Washington town, with very real characters.

Prepare for an ending that you would never have expected. Twin Peaks is easily one of the most underrated shows that you should pick out on a depression-filled day. It will turn your world upside down (in a good way).

A lot of people think that comedy shows are the best way to get rid of depression. That’s not always true and sometimes funny shows might have the exact opposite effect. If you really want to fight the blues, then you should get hooked to shows that keep you guessing through every episode.

Once you’re glued to the couch and forgotten about everything else but one of the three shows mentioned here, that’s when you know your day’s going to get better. P.S: Don’t forget to call in sick.

SMILE AND LAUGHTER

Smile and laughter are mostly expressions of joy, happiness and pleasure. Their physical appearance is well known. However, there are many aspects about both smile and laughter which are unknown to common people.  The main purpose of this article is to provide that information so that any over simplification or misconception about their nature, purpose, form and results is removed and people can enrich themselves with their true benefits.

There is a general belief that smile and laughter are closely related and some people  think of them as twin sister and brother. There is another concept that laughter is continuation of the process initiated by smile. This is not always the case. There might be occasions when a smile may be followed by laughter, but that all depends upon a variety of factors ranging from the nature of content/event leading to a smile, the situation, environment and the people present at the occasion. Before going in to details, about relation between smile and laughter it will be proper to look in to both separately.

Poker And Prayer

It was already on the cards that I will become a good card’s or chess player when I was a child. I showed my talent very early and with the passage of time it continued to improve. My mother encouraged me to play chess only and forget about any form of card’s game. Whenever she dissuaded me from playing cards I would make a poker face and never argued. But, when her “discard the card” advice became more frequent like a true chess player I decided to make my move. One day I asked my father how good was he at card games and told him that my cousins told me that their fathers were very good card players. My father, however, decided to keep his cards close to his chest and asked me to tell actually what I wanted instead of making him play blind. I told him about mother’s advice to which he replied that he will talk to her about the matter. I later learned that he told my mother that that there was no harm in playing the game. After that, she did not talk to me about the matter.

5 Easy Ways to Attain World Peace

Of course we can have world peace. One basketball dude was able to change his name to World Peace, so can you, right? Almost all beauty contestants in the planet are willing to work for world peace, somehow the work rate is slower than we want it to be. Still this planet, called Earth, is reeling from violence and a lot of us think that real world peace will not be achieved in our lifetime. There is hope and get a chuckle out of it, as long as we remain on the same page and work on getting world peace ASAP.

Flexibility
Much of the disagreements in this world are born out of our non-negotiable stance on an issue. Only if negotiators had the flexibility to ease up on their positions, we could have some traction in attaining world peace. If negotiators are not flexible enough, try getting pointers from gymnasts; they’re sure to be flexible, right? Flexibility means that you are willing to bend a little so that each one of us can reach the other side and understand where they are coming from.

Ban all weapons
It would be hard for armies to kill each other with pillows. A humungous pillow fight would be a grand occasion for fun. War has never been pretty and we all know that. If we keep lethal weapons away and just arm ourselves with fluffy pillows, we could no longer inflict damage to anyone, anymore. Ban any kind of weapon and achieve world peace, thank you very much. All countries in the world must seriously work towards implementing gun ban especially to civilians throughout their lifetime. Otherwise, we could not help but fear the occurrence of massacre, summary executions and the like over and over again.

Unity
The United Nations has been way off in totally achieving world peace. Only unity, can make the people of this planet get true peace. If the UN can’t unite us; what will? An asteroid should do or an alien invasion; would suffice. We clearly need to have a common rallying point to leave our differences behind and work for lasting peace. If only people would eliminate the barriers that religion, race and nationality have on us then achieving unity and world peace would definitely be possible. After all, it is us who will benefit from it, right?

Tolerance
Tolerance is learning that everyone is different and you’re cool with it. Tolerance is achieved when you bond with each other and learn that Aryans and Jews can get along just fine. There is no better way to have conflicting parties join a camping trip, throw in some marshmallows and campfire stories for best results. Tolerance would mean recognizing each other’s differences and still have the capability to work harmoniously with each other. Of course, we should not misconstrue tolerance for indifference.

Laughter
Well, have you seen people killing each other while laughing? Certainly, such a thing would not happen. Moods can change the complexity of world affairs. If we start to laugh a little we bring down stress levels and anxiety. We tend to think better when we laugh due to the flooding of endorphins. Why not try laughter to cure what ails our pursuit for world peace? Sometimes we have to look at humor to get a different view on resolving conflicts. If we allow ourselves to laugh a little; we bring down our defenses. We are more likely to be understanding and tolerant of other people’s position. Make no mistake, achieving world peace is serious business and we have been tackling it seriously for so long. Why not inject some humor for a change and try to shake things a bit?

The five points mentioned above may seem like a paradox to some people especially when they think about achieving world peace for real. However, if we only just take a closer look at the points mentioned above and ponder on it we would realize that achieving world peace is indeed possible. Yes, it certainly is and it should start from you and me. Let us not wait for others to initiate the action. Let us start it right here, right now.

Some Ancient Jokes

A glutton betrothed his daughter to another glutton. Asked what he was giving her as a dowry, he replied: “A house whose windows face the bakery.”

An intellectual, falling sick, had promised to pay the doctor if he recovered. When his wife nagged at him for drinking wine while he had a fever, he said: “Do you want me to get healthy and be forced to pay the doctor?”

An intellectual came to check in on a friend who was seriously ill. When the man’s wife said that he had ‘departed’, the intellectual replied: “When he arrives back, will you tell him that I stopped by?”
